Evan Burleigh

life + legacy

Evan Burleigh (May 28, 1992–February 20, 2023) remains a cherished figure within the Reno climbing community, his memory resonating with all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joining BaseCamp in September of 2015, Evan quickly became a dedicated member, with nearly 700 check-ins during his tenure. His ever-presence left an enduring imprint.

Evan's diverse range of hobbies and eclectic interests knew no bounds, and he eagerly shared his passions with others. He could talk your ear off about jewelry making, archery, painting, Norse mythology, leatherwork, rock polishing, and so much more. Evan's enthusiasm was infectious.

Climbing was more than just a pastime for Evan; it was his sanctuary, his refuge amidst life's challenges. He prioritized climbing sessions above all else, often trekking miles to the gym on foot regardless of weather conditions.

Reflecting on Evan’s life and impact, we are reminded of his generosity: always a beta to give. His dedication to the sport was unparalleled.

In honor of Evan's enduring legacy and the unwavering passion he possessed, the Evan Burleigh Memorial Scholarship has been established. This scholarship is designed to provide access to climbing for individuals who may not otherwise have the means to pursue their goals.

Through this initiative, his family and friends aim to create opportunities for others to experience the same joy and fulfillment that climbing brought to Evan's life. It is their way of ensuring that his memory lives on and that his love for the sport may inspire others to “climb on”!
